Confusion at Rangers after manager reportedly denies he resigned

In a bizarre scenario, the Scottish club announced that Mark Warburton had stepped down contrary to other claims.

RANGERS ANNOUNCED FRIDAY the resignation of manager Mark Warburton – but there seems to be some confusion at Ibrox.

Warburton’s assistant David Weir and the club’s head of recruitment Frank McParland have also left the club, according to a statement, but Warburton is reportedly denying he had quit his position.

The BBC reports that Warburton says he is “unaware of Rangers’ statement regarding his resignation.

It is believed that Warburton and his staff may have left the club to pursue the vacant Nottingham Forest position in the Championship, although he had been subject of much criticism in the press in recent times, while supporters were unhappy with the players brought in by the former Brentford boss.

The club statement read: “At a meeting with the management team’s representative earlier this week the Club were advised that Mr Warburton, Mr Weir and Mr McParland wished to resign their positions and leave the Club on the condition that Rangers agreed to waive its rights to substantial compensation.

“Rangers’ agreement to waive compensation would assist the management team to join another club.”

Rangers’ statement has since been taken down from the club’s official website.
