'We felt like it was there for us' - Seamus Coleman on what might have been for Ireland

The captain also thanked the Irish fans for their support.

IRELAND CAPTAIN SEAMUS Coleman has expressed his disappointment that his team were unable to reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 to reward the Irish fans for their support.

Speaking to RTÉ after the match, the full-back said that even though they were outnumbered in Lyon, the players were buoyed by the Green Army.

“We’re disappointed,” he said.

“We felt like it was there for us and we gave our all in this tournament but we’re so disappointed at the moment. I suppose that shows how well we’ve done that we’re disappointed to be beat.

Our fans were unbelievable and we’d have loved to go a bit further for them.

“We hope we made people proud because our fans are amazing and everyone back home is amazing and, as I said, we’re just disappointed we couldn’t see it out.

“Everyone made a big deal of the ticket allocation and what not and we only had a little corner of the ground but they were so loud and so positive towards us at the end.

“It’s a special bond between the fans and the players.”
