The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Find out who Arsenal will replace Cesc Fabregas with, which player David Beckham thinks United should sign and find out what we think is the canniest transfer deal of the day.

IF ASTON VILLA don’t sign Charles N’Zogbia at this stage, I’ll eat my hat.

They have been linked with the player so often and ‘set’ to sign him so many times I’ve lost count. Surely a club can only ‘discuss the possibility of a move’ for so long before they get so fed up and just sign him out of sheer boredom, irrespective of the price.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has said he wants to sign ‘four or five’ new players before the transfer deadline. In other words, his position is no different to any other manager in the Premiership.

Meanwhile, David Beckham seems to have become Man United’s unofficial club spokesperson, saying Wesley Sneijder would be a great signing for the club.

Indeed, Old Trafford seems to be suddenly acquiring a rather democratic transfer policy, with even someone as insignificant as Patrice Evra having his say – he thinks they should sign Nasri and that the Frenchman would be treated like a ‘king’ if he did agree to join, for what it’s worth.

Chelsea will sign Javier Pastore for £40m, or else opt for one of the other million creative attacking midfielders that they’ve been linked with.

Finally, Pep Guardiola thinks Alex Ferguson is the best coach in the world. Funny how complimentary managers can be about their counterparts after their team has beaten said manager’s side comfortably, as was the case in the Champions League final.

Ill-advised prospective deal of the day: Alberto Aquilani may be on his way to Fiorentina, as the Italian club’s entire fanbase let out a collective gasp.

Advised prospective deal of the day: Behind the scenes, Arsenal seem to have admitted defeat in their bid to keep Cesc Fabregas at the club. However, they are asking for talented Spanish player Thiago Alcantara to be included as part of the deal, and the player undoubtedly has the potential to fill the void left by Fabregas.
