Thomas Barr among Irish to book final spots at European Team Championships

The Olympic finalist and six others from Team Ireland will line out in finals tomorrow.

THOMAS BARR HAS cruised into the 400m hurdles final at the European Team Championships in Finland, after winning his heat earlier today.

The Waterford native was one of many Irish athletes to advance on the first day of the League 1 competition, clocking a time of 50.49 seconds.

Barr is the fourth fastest qualifier heading into tomorrow’s final.

UCD’s Sarah Lavin qualified for the 100m hurdles final, as she ran a time of 13.69. Amy Foster finished second in her 100m heat, and is the second fastest qualifier ahead of her final tomorrow.

Marcus Lawler pulled out a big performance to win his 200m heat in a time of 20.71 — a new personal best. Meanwhile, Bandon’s Phil Healy also advances in the women’s 200m.

Brian Gregan was the fastest qualifier in the 400m in 46.24, while Sinead Denny progresses to the women’s final of the same event.

There was no luck for Ben Reynolds, who was disqualified from his 110m hurdle heat, and Eanna Madden and Christina McMahon missed out on spots in the 100m and 400m hurdles finals respectively.
