Transfer speculation: Agent hints Bale could leave Spurs

Jonathan Barnett also claims the winger is “too expensive for Barca”.

GARETH BALE’S AGENT has hinted the player may leave Tottenham in search of Champions League football.

Tottenham were denied a Champions League spot despite finishing fourth, after Chelsea won the competition, taking the final English place in the process.

Following this failure, speculation has intensified that the Welsh international could leave the club, with Barcelona one of the sides to have been linked with a move for the winger.

And the player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, did little to downplay these rumours, telling Catalan-based newspaper Sport that the lack of Champions League football is “a problem”. He added:

“The big European clubs already know how much it would take to do a deal and therefore if you are interested you know what kind of offer has to be put on the table.”

“I think it’s too expensive for Barca. To my knowledge, Barca have not made any offer for him. It seems that Barca are working on the signing of Jordi Alba, a cheaper option.”

Bale has played for Tottenham since 2007, after signing from Southampton as a teenager.

Bale experienced a slow start to his career at the club, who failed to win the first 24 games in which he played, before he gradually established himself as one of their key players.

The news also comes in the wake of manager Harry Redknapp’s departure from the club.
