IT WASN’T A derby-winning hattrick, or scored in front of 80,000 supporters, but Eamon Zayed added another important goal to his Persepolis account last night.

The former Derry City marksman was on the scoresheet as the Iranian giants qualified for the knockout rounds of the Asian Champions League.

The Tehran outfit needed a win away to bottom club Al-Shabab to guarantee their place in the last 16 but fell behind to an early goal on seven minutes.

Al-Shabab looked set to go in at half-time in front before Zayed popped up to head home the equaliser two minutes before the break. The goal takes his Champions League tally to five, one behind the competition’s top scorer, former Brazilian international Ricardo Oliviera.

Persepolis went on to win 3-1, qualifying as group runners-up and setting up a tricky tie away to Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia in the knockout stage which begins next week.
