As It Happened: Kerry v Dublin, Cork v Donegal, Mayo v Monaghan - Sunday GAA tracker

We kept an eye on all the action from around the country.

RUGBY DOMINATED TODAY’S sporting agenda in Ireland, but away from Dublin there was the small matter of some tasty games in the Allianz football league. We were focusing on the action in Killarney, Ballyshannon and Castlebar.

Afternoon and welcome along to today’s GAA coverage. It’s a massive Sunday of sports action but there’s plenty important games on as well, particularly in Killarney, Castlebar and Ballyshannon.

Already the weather has claimed a couple of games as victims. The Division 2 ties of Meath and Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park and Galway against Laois in Salthill are both postponed.

Here’s the football league games in store today:

  • Division 1: Kerry v Dublin, Killarney; Donegal v Cork, Ballyshannon; Mayo v Monaghan, Castlebar.
  • Division 2: Kildare v Westmeath, Newbridge.
  • Division 3: Limerick v Armagh, Gaelic Grounds; Louth v Wexford, Drogheda; Fermanagh v Tipperary, Enniskillen; Clare v Sligo, Ennis.
  • Division 4: Wicklow v Offaly, Aughrim; Leitrim v Antrim, Carrick-on-Shannon.

The AIB All-Ireland club camogie finals are now on in Croke Park. The intermediate game sees Waterford’s Lismore against Kilkenny’s Piltown. The senior battle is between Wexford’s Oulart-The-Ballagh and Galway’s Mullagh.

Change of Sunday afternoon plans for the Galway and Meath footballers.

They’re about to get started in Ballyshannon, where Cork are aiming to maintain their 100% record in this season’s Division One campaign.

Dublin hit the front when Ciaran Kilkenny draws on a loose ball near goal. He’s trying to hit the net but Brendan Kealy tips the ball over.

Cillian O’Connor and Aiden O’Shea have Mayo ahead after Rory Beggan gave Monaghan an early lead.

Colm O’Neill opened the scoring for Cork with a free, but two points from play from Martin O’Reilly have Donegal in front.

That’s a really well-worked Dublin move involving Philly McMahon, Kevin McManamon and Eoghan O’Gara before finally Tomas Brady is on the end to point. Dublin follow that up with another McCaffrey point after a poor Kerry kickout.

Michael Murphy and Christy Toye with further points for Donegal but Colm O’Neill and Kevin O’Driscoll keep the minimum between the sides.

Good start for the Lake County in snowy Newbridge.

Donncha O’Connor levelled the scores with a free but Martin O’Reilly has Donegal back in front.

Dublin have been great to watch in the last few minutes going forward. Sean Currie’s quick kickout releases Johnny Cooper and sets in motion a move that culminates in Shane Carthy knocking over his first point of the day.

O’Brien atones in style with a point for Kerry after a poor kickout from Currie. Then Currie sends out another bad kickout but as Kerry attack in on goal, the move breaks down after a poor pass from Paul Geaney.

Sheehan converts a free for Kerry but they then came close to another  goal after a bad kick out again by Currie. The ball was floated in where Paul Geaney fetched in and smashed in a shot that was well saved by Currie.

Kerry start the second-half brightest. Sheehan converts a ’45, then Keane fires in a high ball that Donaghy gathers before releasing to Stephen O’Brien, who points. Sheehan just strikes another free and Kerry go two in front.

Sub: Bernard Brogan came on at half-time for Dublin as well for Cormac Costello.

Weather takes a turn for the worse in Killarney as the hail starts to rain down.
