Well, after a somewhat subdued opening, that game really caught fire towards the end of the half.

Waterford have been comfortably the better side and thoroughly deserve their lead. They were sharper and more clinical than Kilkenny throughout the opening period.

The second half is under way…

Kilkenny are right back in this match all of a sudden.

Waterford have gone nearly 10 minutes without a score.

This would be some comeback from Kilkenny.

Goal! Waterford 3-19 Kilkenny 2-18 Jamie Barron bursts forward and scores his first championship goal.

He’s been very influential in this extra-time period.

Half-time: Waterford 3-19 Kilkenny 2-18

Jamie Barron has been the key man in this extra-time period.

His goal means Waterford lead by four at the break, leaving them in a promising position.

However, it would be pretty foolish to write off Kilkenny, given that they’ve already produced one miraculous comeback.

The second half is under way…

Waterford 3-19 Kilkenny 2-19 We’re back to a three-point game, as TJ Reid slots over another free.

Goal! Waterford 4-19 Kilkenny 2-19 Shanahan escapes from his marker, runs through on goal and shows great composure with the finish.

Waterford 4-19 Kilkenny 2-20 TJ Reid reduces the deficit to five points with a simple free.

Waterford 4-20 Kilkenny 2-21 Tommy Ryan gives Waterford some breathing space with a well-taken point.

Richie Leahy responds instantaneously for Kilkenny though.

Waterford 4-21 Kilkenny 2-21 Shanahan slots over another point for Waterford.

There’s six points between the sides with two minutes remaining.

It would take a Kilkenny miracle now.

Waterford 4-21 Kilkenny 2-22 TJ Reid’s free is deflected over the bar.

Two minutes of injury time remain…

Waterford 4-22 Kilkenny 2-22 Shanahan slots over a free.

Full-time: Waterford 4-23 Kilkenny 2-22

So that’s that. Waterford have beaten Kilkenny for the first time in the championship since 1959.

They must now be considered one of the favourites for the All-Ireland.

Kilkenny fought valiantly and showed great resilience to come back and bring the game to extra-time, but over the course of the match, Waterford were the better team and deserved their win.

Right, that’s all from me for now. Thanks for reading and commenting.
