Keane hopes old pals Duff and Dunne bounce back from season-ending injuries

The LA Galaxy captain’s old team-mates both suffered bad injuries in recent weeks.

ROBBIE KEANE BELIEVES Richard Dunne has done enough to earn himself a new contract after seeing his season ended by injury.

The Dubliner, who retired from international football last year, suffered cruciate ligament injury while playing for relegation-threatened QPR earlier this month and is expected to the be sidelined for three months.

Dunne is out of contract this summer but former team-mate Keane thinks his performances for the Rs this season merit a new deal.

“I’ve been texting him back and forth,” Keane said yesterday.  ”It’s a shame for him because it is the last year of his contract. He has been huge for him and certainly be a huge loss. It is going to be a big task for QPR to stay up when you are missing someone like Richie.

“He has been a rock so hopefully he can get himself back. I’m not too sure when he wants to do but they will probably try and sign him on another year after what he has done for them. If not, he will definitely find a club.”

Damien Duff, who played alongside Keane and Dunne for many years, also had his season ended by double injury picked up last weekend.

The Melbourne City winger damaged ankle ligaments and ruptured a tendon in his calf in the A-League game against Weillington on Saturday and faces an uncertain future when his one-year contract expires.

I only read it yesterday of the day before,” explained Keane. “I didn’t even know. I haven’t spoke to him yet but I definitely will in the next day or so. I will give him a call.

“I know he has been doing great over there so hopefully if they are clever they will give him another contract because he is a fit lad anyway.”
