Waterford to blood six debutants against Cork tonight

Derek McGrath’s side will be without a number of their big names.

WATERFORD BOSS DEREK McGrath has named an inexperienced side for their Munster senior hurling league clash with Cork in Mallow tonight.

The Déise were due to have their first run out of the season on Sunday against Limerick in Carriganore but that game was called off on the eve of the fixture following heavy rain.

And McGrath has made five changes in personnel from his planned starting XV on Sunday including the withdrawal of Maurice Shanahan, Noel Connors, Darragh Fives and Jake Dillon.

McGrath will give senior debuts to six players tonight, including an entirely new full-back line of Conor Gleeson, Shane Roche and Kieran Bennett.

Michael Harney gets his first outing with the seniors in the half-forward line with Tommy Waring and Colm Roche picked in the full-forward line.

The Rebels, under new manager Kieran Kingston, began their Munster senior hurling league with a three-point loss to Clare before claiming a five-point win against Kerry on Sunday.

Clare take on Kerry in Sixmilebridge in tonight’s other league fixture. Both games throw in at 7.30pm.
