The 17 books in contention for the 2013 William Hill Sports Book of the Year

The winner of the £25,000 prize will be announced in late November.

IRISH JOURNALIST DAVID Walsh has been included on the longlist for the 2013 William Hill Sports Book of the Year.

‘Seven Deadly Sins,’ Walsh’s memoir of his work to expose cycling drugs cheat Lance Armstrong, is one of 17 titles in contention for the £25,000 first prize.

Among the other nominees are ‘Immortal,’ Duncan Hamilton’s approved biography of George Best, ‘The Sports Gene’ by David Epstein, and Sid Lowe’s history of the Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry, ‘Fear and Loathing in La Liga.’

The shortlist will be announced on 5 October and the winner will be announced on 27 November.

The award was won last year by Daniel Coyle and Tyler Hamilton, authors of ‘The Secret Race.’
