'I'm not trying to screw them. This is a partnership' - Rodgers on contract negotiations with Packers

Aaron Rodgers, 34, is planning to continue on his NFL journey with the Green Bay Packers.

GREEN BAY PACKERS star Aaron Rodgers wants to extend his contract with the NFL franchise and is reportedly heading towards a deal that would make him the highest-paid player in the league.

Despite the big numbers involved, the 34-year-old maintains that he’s not trying to take advantage of the franchise.

The veteran Rodgers signed a five-year, $110million extension with the Packers in 2013, which is now up for renewal.

Speaking via ESPN’s ‘Wilde and Taush’ yesterday, Rodgers said: “I’m not trying to screw them. This is a partnership.

“The only way this is going to work and the best way for this to work is that we’re in this together.”

Rodgers added: “If you ask the team about the last deal that we did, and you ask me, both sides are happy. They paid me a lot of money and never had a major salary cap year.”

Rodgers is entering his fourteenth season with the Packers, having been drafted in the first round in 2005.

Rodgers’ confidence that the team are getting a good deal is backed up by his record. He is a six-time Pro Bowl player and won the NFL MVP in 2011 and 2014. In 2011, he led the Packers to their fourth Super Bowl victory.

The current highest-paid player in the league is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who received a five-year, $150m extension in May.
