Almost half of neutrals want Kilkenny to lose today

Ireland’s in two camps: 43% want Kilkenny beaten by Tipp, and nearly as many think it’ll end quickly. Have your say!

A SURVEY OF GAA FANS has revealed that the public are split almost perfectly down the middle as to who people would like to see win the All-Ireland hurling final between Kilkenny and Tipperary.

The survey – commissioned by travel website lastminute.com – has shown that 43% of respondents would rather that Kilkenny didn’t lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup for a fifth consecutive year.

Many fans – possibly those supporting Kilkenny and believing the game to be a cakewalk – also think that the game will be decided well before the final whistle.

40% – two in five – believe the result will be a foregone conclusion well before the end, with just 16% – one in six – believing it could be decided by a score late on.

Female fans, meanwhile, are divided about whether they supported the GAA’s rules on compulsory helmets, with 38% saying it “takes care of the ugly” but 33% saying it “hid the handsome”.

The survey also asked how fans would react if they were the referee and had to make a controversial late call, as Diarmuid Kirwan of Cork had to do in last year’s final, that was later proven incorrect – as Martin Sludden was after the Leinster football final.

Just under half said they would visit the affected county in person to apologise, while 32% said they’d do no such thing and merely do so over the airwaves.

What do you think – forget what you think will happen, and tell us: do you want to see Kilkenny clinch the five-in-a-row, or do you want Tipperary to skin the Cats?
