Answering Ireland's call, Anthony Foley plays down talk of Munster job

The Thomond Park forwards coach agrees he has ‘a busy week’ in store.

ANTHONY FOLEY REFUSED to get drawn on speculation that he’ll be the man to replace Munster head coach Tony McGahan.

Munster edged out Cardiff Blues 16-13 at Thomond Park tonight, the first game since McGahan confirmed he’ll be returning to Australia at the end of the season.

Reds’ favourite and current forwards coach, Foley is many fans’ choice as the next boss but the he was giving nothing away this evening in Limerick.

“That’s a long way off, there’s a process to go through for that and again as I say, I have a busy week ahead of me and I’m just going to concenetrate on that,” he told RTÉ’s Joanne Cantwell.

That busy week begins immediately. Foley has been drafted into the Ireland senior set-up because forwards coach Gert Smal will miss the rest of the Six Nations campaign with an eye injury. Foley will report to the national team base tonight.

“I’m very excited about about being called up but I know my fortune is because of someone else’s illness. That’s something the human side looks at and you wish Gert all the best. My side of it is the get up to speed on where the Irish team is and make sure they’re full ready.”

Ireland face Italy at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow.
