DINA ASHER-SMITH completed a scintillating sprint double at the European Championships in Berlin, beating Dafne Schippers to gold in the women’s 200m.
Having forced her Dutch rival to settle for bronze in the 100m final on Tuesday, 22-year-old Asher-Smith had too much power once again, opening up a sizable lead by the bend so that even Schippers’ long stride could not regain enough ground on the home stretch.
Asher-Smith’s time of 21.89 makes her the fastest woman over the distance in the world this year and also marks a new British record.
