KILKENNY BOSS BRIAN Cody isn’t placing too much emphasis on his side’s All-Ireland pedigree as they look to win their sixth title in seven seasons this weekend.

On Sunday, the Cats come up against a Galway side looking to bring Liam McCarthy back out west for the first time since the famous double-winning squad of 1987 and 1988.

But although Kilkenny have been a part of every All-Ireland showdown bar two since the turn of the century, Cody says it won’t make a difference when the first whistle blows.

“You can say that that will stand to us,” he told TV3′s GAA Show. “Maybe it will and maybe it won’t, it doesn’t work that way all the time.”

It depends very much. A team can come into an All-Ireland final without having been there for a number of years and just take off on the day.

So really it’s a question not so much of what happens before the match or in the build-up or anything else; it’s a question of what happens when the referee blows the whistle to start the game. That’s when the action really matters.
