No Drama This End (4-1, William Hill)

Turners Novices Hurdle, Wednesday 1.20pm

I LOVE A good christening in racing, and No Drama This End is one of those horses that you take notice of due to his name and quality.

It feels as though the layers reckon Paul Nicholls is not the trainer he was – which is untrue – as he rates this horse as top-class, yet he is an each-way price for a fairly standard renewal (the caveat being if Willie Mullins’ Mighty Park runs here rather than in the Supreme).

No Drama This End was generally 3-1 after scoring at Newbury and has drifted despite not running since. He really took to this course and distance in November, when he smashed the very useful Heads Up. Strong each-way appeal.

I Started A Joke (10-1, William Hill)

Wednesday 2.40pm

Given that I Started A Joke was coming out of maiden company, it was staggering that he was sent off at 7-4 in a 19-runner race on his handicap debut at the Dublin Racing Festival. That said, he really did all bar win, looking like a really promising handicapper.

This race is tougher again but the new trip looks sure to suit. On top of that, I Started A Joke is trained by a really sharp operator in Charles Byrnes, and he is a far, far bigger price than at the DRF.

Keep an eye out for extra each-way places closer to the off. This horse has other options but the non-runner, money back option currently on offer from William Hill renders this irrelevant for any wager at Cheltenham.

Majborough (5-6, William Hill)

Queen Mother Champion Chase, Wednesday 4pm

Odds-on shots will not be for everyone, but Majborough looks far superior to all his rivals for the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Both L’eau du Sud and Il Etait Temps, the second- and third-favourites, ran so poorly last time, while Jonbon, who has multiple Grade 1s on his CV, is consistently short of his best at Cheltenham.

David Casey, assistant to Willie Mullins, was raving about Majborough winning this race at a recent preview night – and those comments were made before the withdrawal of Marine Nationale, who looked to be the only conceivable danger provided Majborough does not blunder his own chance away.

His jumping was in danger of becoming a major negative, but going back left-handed and perhaps headgear has turned him into something of a monster.
