Kildare have got a player back from the AFL to boost their hopes for 2015

Daniel Flynn is set to rejoin the Lilywhites squad.

THE KILDARE FOOTBALL squad have received a huge boost with news of the imminent return of Daniel Flynn to their ranks.

The Irish Times reports that the talented youngster has cut ties with Australian Rules club Port Adelaide to bring an end to his AFL career.

The Johnstownbridge club man signed a two-year contract with Port Adelaide in October 2013. He had caught the eye as a brilliant underage player with his performances for the St Mary’s (Edenderry) team that won the Hogan Cup  in 2012 before claiming a Leinster U21 medal with Kildare in 2013.

Flynn went on to play for Kildare in the senior championship in 2013 before making the move to Adelaide to embark on an Australian Rules career.

He did return to Ireland in March last year due to homesickness before returning to Adelaide after his ‘leave of absence’. The 21 year-old didn’t make an AFL appearance and after returning home at Christmas, he has since decided to make the move permanent.

Flynn is expected to rejoin the Kildare panel in the next few weeks. Jason Ryan’s Kildare team have qualified for the O’Byrne Cup semi-final next Sunday where they will take on Dublin IT in Newbridge. Kildare’s Allianz Division 2 football league campaign begins on Sunday February 1st with a home tie against Down in Newbridge.

These 26 games will make for a busy week of pre-season football and hurling
