Cruel six-week ankle injury for Connacht's Dave McSharry

Openside flanker Jake Heenan has also been ruled out of the clash with Munster on Friday night.

CONNACHT CENTRE DAVE McSharry will be out of action for up to six weeks with an ankle sprain.

The former Ireland U20 international was withdrawn early in the first half of the 14-11 win over the Newport Gwent Dragons on Saturday. McSharry’s start to the season was delayed by a long-term recovery from hip surgery, although the 23-year-old has made seven appearances for the province since October.

Openside flanker Jake Heenan is another man who will almost certainly be missing from the inter-provincial Pro12 clash with Munster on the 27th of this month. The promising Kiwi was also substituted off in last weekend’s victory over the Dragons. His shoulder strain is now likely to see him sidelined for the game against the southern province.

Sligo native and former UL Bohemians hooker Sean Henry will also be missing for the Munster clash, having failed to recover from the neck strain that ruled him out last weekend.

There is some positive news for head coach Pat Lam, with prop Ronan Loughney and scrum-half Frank Murphy both having returned to squad training today. Second row Aly Muldowney has recovered from illness and also trained in Galway earlier.

Connacht take on Munster at Thomond Park on Friday, 27th December with a kick-off time of 7.15pm.
