WHEN LIVERPOOL WERE eliminated from the Champions League after a 1-1 draw with Basel one of the main talking points was the red card shown to Lazar Markovic. The Serbian threw his hand backwards when dribbling with the ball and although the contact was minimal, the referee showed the winger a red card.
Markovic was guaranteed at least a one game suspension but UEFA have deemed the incident worthy of a tougher sanction and banned him for four games.
That means he will miss both of Liverpool’s last 32 matches against Besiktas and both last 16 legs if the Reds get that far.
