HURLING LEGEND GER Loughnane has criticised the lack of transparency in the GAA and given his thoughts on the managers’ pay debate.
Speaking to RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, Loughnane said:
“How much is the GAA paying Christy Cooney for the last 3 years, or the full time County Secretaries all over the country, why don’t the GAA give us that information? This is the question.
“Why are these people, and people who make a living from talking about hurling, like some broadcasters and print journalists, why are they saying that managers shouldn’t be paid? It’s a type of hypocrisy’.”
In the lengthy interview, Loughnane also spoke about his battle with leukaemia and criticised sections of the media, who spread false reports of his death.
He described how some people thought he was a “dead man walking,” while thanking the numerous GAA fans who wished him well during his battle with the disease.
Loughnane was part of the famous Clare team of the 1970s, before helping his native county to win two All-Ireland titles in the 1990s.
