Kerry's Seamus Scanlon retires from inter-county football

The midfielder helped Kerry to three All-Ireland titles during his years in the green and gold.

KERRY MIDFIELDER SEAMUS Scanlon has announced his decision to retire from inter-county football.

The Currow clubman, who made his senior championship debut for the Kingdom against Limerick in 2002, won three All-Ireland titles and a National League title during his years in the green and gold.

He retires with the distinction of having represented Kerry at every age group.

“Seamus, publicity shy, and  a central player for Kerry for many years always took great pride in donning the green and gold,” a statement issued by the county board this afternoon said.

“He understood the honour it was to represent the Kingdom and always did so with honest hard work and great pride.

“The chairman of Kerry County Committee, Patrick O’Sullivan, today thanked Seamus sincerely for all his hard work and years of commitment to Kerry at every age.

“On behalf of all Kingdom supporters he wished Seamus well in the future and wished him great success with his club Currow and divisional side St Kieran’s.”
