Brilliant work from Culhane as he gathered the throw-in and raced through the heart of the DCU defence. Lowe got a touch to his eventual shot but it wasn’t enough to prevent the ball from nestling in the back of the net. Great individual score.

Goal for UCC from David Culhane!

DCU with a late free and a chance to draw the game.

UCC 1-8 DCU 1-7
What a boost for UCC at this late stage of the game. Luke Connolly floats in a ball from the right wing and Alan O’Donovan rises to fist to the net.

Goal for UCC from Alan O’Donovan!

DCU 1-7 UCC 0-8
Crucial point for DCU as Conor Boyle stretches their lead.

Another good opening for UCC to draw level but Connolly pulls his shot wide. Before that Donie Smith missed a great chance to point for DCU from a close-range free.

UCC bring off Gary O’Sullivan and introduce Eanna Ó Conchúir to the action.

Another UCC wide, this time from David Harrington.

Great chance for Luke Connolly to draw UCC level but he boots wide.

DCU 1-6 UCC 0-8
UCC do get something out of that attack as Luke Connolly smashes over a ’45 and then Gary O’Sullivan kicks a great point from the wing.

Big goal chance for UCC as Paul Geaney breaks before playing in David Harrington yet his shot is tipped away for a ’45 by Tadgh Lowe.

Some confusion over that goal, it now appears that Donal Wrynn got the final touch for DCU.

Change for DCU as Diarmuid O’Connor goes off with Rory Connor coming on.

DCU 1-6 UCC 0-6
That could be a huge score for DCU. Donal Smith swings in a cross from the left that UCC don’t deal with properly and after the high delivery breaks, it’s Enda Smith who pounces to net.

Goal for DCU from Enda Smith.

UCC have a couple of chances to go ahead but they’ve underhit scoring chances and we’re still level.

UCC 0-5 DCU 0-5
Now we’re level as Louth’s Eoin O’Connor bounds through to point for DCU.

Enda Smith gets through for a really good point for DCU. He was off balance and under severe pressure from UCC defender Thomas Clancy but still managed to get his shot away and pop over a point.

UCC 0-5 DCU 0-3
Strong work by the UCC attack as Paul Geaney robs DCU in possession and realises Cox who taps over a neat point.

UCC have the ball in the net but it’s disallowed as Sean Kiely is judged to have challenged goalkeeper Tadgh Lowe illegally. Tight and tense so far, not much in the way of sparkling football.

McHugh’s accuracy deserting him from frees, he misses a second-in-a-row for DCU.

UCC 0-4 DCU 0-3
UCC hit the front as Clancy strides forward from wing-back to set up Conor Cox for a point. McHugh has a chance to level at the other end but he hooks a shot wide under pressure.

DCU 0-3 UCC 0-3
Not much separating these teams in the opening quarter. All square now as Conor McHugh converts a free for DCU.

UCC 0-1 DCU 0-1
First score of the game arrives courtesy of UCC’s Conor Cox as he arcs over a free after Brian O’Driscoll is fouled. Immediately DCU counter when Enda Smith sends Donal Wrynn clear. There’s a goal on but he has to be satisfied with a point as the ball flies over the bar.

DCU attack downfield and have their first shot of the day but Diarmuid O’Connor launches one from distance that goes wide.

Couple of early scoring chances for UCC but Thomas Clancy and Brian O’Driscoll shoot wide.

We’re almost set for action here. Laois man Eddie Kinsella is the referee.
