JUST DAYS AFTER announcing a new dedicated golf channel, Sky Sports have lost the broadcasting rights for this year’s US PGA Championship.

The PGA of America, which runs the tournament, confirmed last night that it would not be renewing Sky Sports’ decade-long deal, instead pursuing a new media model.

“We had a good partnership with Sky but the 2017 US PGA Championship will not be on Sky,” Jeff Price, the PGA of America’s chief commercial officer told The Guardian.

“It was a multi-year deal that was up. Ultimately one of the key things for us is scale of distribution and obviously with all the new platforms that consumers are engaging with, we want to make sure we reach all of them.”

The news will be a blow to Sky Sports subscribers as the broadcaster had billed itself as the home of golf and was this year set to broadcast all four Majors for just the second time.

However, as the PGA of America pursue “multi-platform distribution” it remains to be seen where Irish viewers will be able to watch this year’s final Major at Quail Hollow.
