UCC AND WATERFORD both booked places in the semi-finals of the McGrath Cup with quarter-final victories this afternoon.
UCC enjoyed a successful journey to Rathkeale as they despatched Limerick by 4-16 to 3-9 in their last eight tie while in Clashmore, it finished 1-11 to 0-9 in favour of the home side Waterford against the students of Cork IT.
In a high scoring contest at Mick Neville Park, UCC raced into an early lead with Cork senior Tom Clancy finding the net and Adrian Spillane raising another green flag as they went ahead by 2-6 to 1-4 at half-time.
Seanie Buckley fired home a goal for Limerick in the first-half and completed his hat-trick with two second-half goals to see his side lead 3-7 to 2-8 with 20 minutes remaining.
But UCC finished the stronger with Kerry’s Thomas Hickey bagging two second-half goals while Conor Horgan, David Harrington and Conor Cox were amongst their point scorers on the day.
Lorcán Ó Curraoin’s goal was the crucial score in enabling Waterford to defeat Cork IT in Clashmore. Shane Aherne’s accuracy saw him land four points to help Waterford lead 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.
Cork IT hit back and were in front by 0-9 to 0-8 midway through the second-half but Waterford shot 1-3 without reply to secure the spoils.
