Wave goodbye: Anelka set for Shanghai move

The French striker will leave Chelsea in January, after falling out of favour with Andre Villas-Boas.

CHELSEA STRIKER NICOLAS Anelka is set for a move to Shanghai Shenhua, according to reports.

The French striker has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and requested to be put on the transfer list alongside Brazilian defender Alex, having fallen behind the likes of Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge in the first team pecking order.

A spokesman for the Chinese Super League club, Ma Yue, said that Anelka would join the club in January “if all contract details are 100% confirmed”.

Anelka has scored 59 goals in 185 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Bolton for £15million in 2008. He also has had spells at Arsenal, Real Madrid and Man City.

Shanghai Shenhua only became a professional club in 1993 and endured a disappointing year last season, finishing 11th in a league of 16 clubs.
