CONNACHT’S IS THE only provincial football championship that’s already underway after a tight battle in New York’s Gaelic Park at the start of the month.
Roscommon were lucky to survive a major scare from the ex-pats as they secured a spot in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile, Mayo are in search of their sixth provincial title in a row and it’s quite unlikely that they’ll be stopped. Sligo, Galway and London have all reached the final in recent years, but all were convincingly beaten.
Despite a rocky start to their league campaign and a struggle to avoid relegation to Division 2, Stephen Rochford’s men will be confident that they can retain their provincial title yet again.
One cannot rule out the Rossies, however, or Galway who narrowly missed out on promotion to Division 1 on the back of an impressive league campaign.
