Week 14

Panthers and Patriots the big winners on a night of NFL upsets

The playoff picture is starting to take shape after week 14.

THE CAROLINA PANTHERS remain undefeated following a 38-0 demolition of the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night.

Cam Newton passed for 265 yards and three touchdowns as Ron Rivera’s side secured a first round bye in the playoffs with three weeks of the regular season remaining and are now just one win away from being the guaranteed number one seed in the NFC.

Elsewhere in that conference, the Seattle Seahawks lost breakout running back Thomas Rawls to a broken ankle but Russell Wilson continued his streak as the NFL’s best quarterback over the past month, throwing for 292 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-6 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

In the AFC, the New England Patriots regained the number one seed before Tom Brady had even taken a snap as both the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos lost.

Not only did the Bengals suffer a 33-20 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers but they also lost quarterback Andy Dalton, potentially for the season, with a broken thumb.

Khalil Mack proved once again he is one of the NFL’s most dominant defensive players with no less than five sacks of young Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler as the Oakland Raiders pulled off a surprise 15-12 victory in Denver.

The Patriots took advantage of their rivals’ stumbles with a relatively straight forward 27-6 victory over the Houston Texans as they clinched a playoff spot.
