Update: 21-year-old arrested in connection with Collymore tweet

The ex-Premier League player was sent an allegedly racist tweet by someone believed to be residing in the Tyneside area.

A 21-YEAR-OLD has reportedly been arrested after allegedly sending racial abuse to Stan Collymore’s Twitter account.

Northumbria Police told reporters they were investigating the incident following his complaint and Sky News reports that a 21-year-old has been arrested in connection with the icident.

It is understood that the tweets were sent by someone in the Tyneside area.

A spokesperson for the police said:

“Just after midnight police received a complaint of racist comments that had been made on Twitter.

“Officers are carrying out inquiries.”

Collymore is a broadcaster and ex-Premier League footballer who has campaigned extensively to highlight the problems of racism and depression in football.
