DUBLIN AND KILKENNY’S Walsh Cup final is set to take place next Saturday as the curtain-raiser to the 2014 Allianz football league opener between Dublin and Kerry.
The decision has been taken to stage the attractive double-header in Croke Park next Saturday night after Anthony Daly’s Dublin side and Brian Cody’s Kilkenny side both won their Walsh Cup semi-final ties today.
Dublin had home advantage for the game and it has been decided to play it Saturday evening rather than in a traditional Sunday afternoon slot. The decision also avoids a clash with Ireland Scotland Six Nations game next Sunday at the Aviva Stadium.
The Dublin Kilkenny hurling tie has been pencilled in for 5pm in Croke Park next Saturday and will be followed by the meeting of Jim Gavin’s Dublin side and Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s Kerry team at 7pm.
