LOUGHREA’S JOHNNY MAHER is in line to receive an eight-week ban for his involvement in the Galway senior club hurling final flare-up.
Youtube clips of Maher’s clash with two opponents have been viewed more than 270,000 times while US sports site Deadspin also picked up on the incident, which occurred in the closing stages of Loughrea’s defeat to St Thomas’ last month.
Although referee Eoin Shaughnessy took no action at the time, it is understood that Maher did not contest the proposed suspension within the three-day window for an appeal.
No further action is expected to be taken against St Thomas’ forward Richie Murray following an investigation into his conduct in the same game, leaving him free to line out in the All-Ireland semi-final next February.
