THE HARDEST STEP is the one out the door…
Phoenix Park
A place that needs no introduction to regular runners, the country’s biggest park is the perfect place to exercise in the good weather. It plays host to various runs and marathons throughout the year and there are many different routes you can take. Run in the sun or use the overhanging trees as shade, and keep an eye out for the wandering deer.
Howth
An incredibly scenic area, the cliff route is another spectacular sight on a sunny day. It’s quite a difficult climb, though the views of Dublin Bay and Lambay Island make it all worthwhile.
Dun Laoghaire
Start along the sea-front and follow the route of the DLR Bay 10K if you’re feeling adventurous. The loop brings you through Seapoint, Monkstown and Killiney to name a few before looping back into Dun Laoghaire.
City Centre
The best place to run in the city centre is probably down by the quays and the docklands. The Liffey looks great in the sun and you’re guaranteed to catch a few rays. Have a look at some of the impressive buildings that you never bat an eyelid towards when you’re rushing through town.
Sandymount Strand
Head southside and enjoy the sea views as you struggle through your workout. There’ll be plenty of people about the beach; walkers, kids building sandcastles, dogs causing havoc, you name it – so it promises to be worth your efforts.
Griffith Avenue
A lot of streets in the surrounding areas of Dublin look pretty similar; bland, boring and lined with nothing other houses. Griffith Avenue is one example of a welcoming exception. Lined with distinct trees overhanging the pathways, it’s the perfect place whether it’s a sunny day or a crisp autumn afternoon.
